Leyland Titan TD1/Leyland #24
3 may 2009 - Redhill (UK) – Brighton Road - HCVS Rally. This magnificent vehicle was the first Leyland Titan – a bit different from the bus that carried the same name many years later. This one was supplied to Jersey Motor Transport in the Channel Islands as their #24 in 1931, but now lives in the UK. When it went past me, the engine sounded VERY sick indeed and I doubt that it made it all the way to Brighton!

Only 84 of these little 26-seat country buses were built for London Transport, but an amazing 35 survive - because they are so small, they are a favourite for preservation. The class was specially designed for one person operation along narrow country roads and no others were built.

3 may 2009 - Redhill (UK) – Brighton Road - HCVS Rally. This is a typical ‘charabanc’, a type of coach popular until the 1920s. Most, like this one, were built on truck chassis, often from the First World War. This one is now probably the only vehicle built by the Maxwell company to survive in the UK and is part of the National Motor Museum collection.

Daimler CVD6 / Burlingham #019
3 may 2009 - Redhill (UK) – Brighton Road - HCVS Rally. Daimler built some very refined buses in the 1950s and 1960s, then went on the produce the very popular Fleetline double decker, but eventually faded from the scene completely. This CVD6 has a Burlingham coach body and was new to Alexanders in Scotland. This is the first single-deck Daimler pictured here – they were a very nice bus and came in several variants.

3 may 2009 - Redhill (UK) – Brighton Road - HCVS Rally. When this Bedford WTB was built in 1948, it was still largely a wartime design – the OB type came a little later. The body of this one was built by Plaxton, who later became giants of the coach-building world. Only two Plaxton-bodied Bedford OBs survive today.

Swoją drogą jechać ze Sztokholmu do Malmö Integro... cóż, może ma dobre wyposażenie.

3 may 2009 - Redhill (UK) – Brighton Road - HCVS Rally. A Leyland Tiger Cub supplied to W Alexander and Sons of Fife, Scotland in 1961 and bodied by Alexanders themselves. It now lives at the Scottish Bus Museum at Lathalmond, Fife – the first bus we’ve pictured from there. This is a big bus museum, and well worth a visit if you're in East Scotland (not far from Edinburgh).

By the time that the Mark 4 version came along in the mid-1950s, the radiator could be hidden behind a ‘tin front’ as seen here – this example also has platform doors, which weren’t too common on double deck buses at that time. This one is in original condition with no door – the first Central Area RFs were built like this and a door wasn’t added until some years later. This never seemed a very safe arrangement to me. The conductor is riding on the bottom step, but being careful to hold on very tight!
