There were a few more German cities apart from Munich that bought six-wheelers in the 1950s, although most of them look very similar to four-wheelers of the time. Oberhausen springs to mind (one of theirs is preserved in running condition in neighbouring Mülheim-on-Ruhr), but there were a fair few systems. Munich had the biggest fleet, though.
Thanks for the info - I didn't know there were so many. I guess they were a compromise - if you had sharp curves, unsuitable for a conventional bogie tram, then a three-axle tram gave more seats than a long four wheeler.
They were supposed to give a smoother ride and went round corners better than a four wheeler.
