Production of the SLF started under Thomas Dennis, a joint venture between Dennis Specialist Vehicles and Thomas Built Buses. The chassis and the body was manufactured in England and then delivered to North America in a C.K.D. form (completely knocked down). The final assembly process took place in the Freightliner based Thomas plant in Greensboro, North Carolina, USA. The SLF was initially offered in a 30 foot length (known as the SLF230), and a 35 foot length (known as the SLF235) later became available in 2002.
