Thanks - the writing on this photo was hard to read
Now this is an interesting and short-lived route: In 1925, Rheinbahn opened a direct connection between Handweiser on its line to neighbouring Neuss (now the U75) and Meererbusch (present-day Haus Meer stop) junction, where the interurban lines from Düsseldorf to Krefeld (still in existence as U70/U76) and Moers diverged. Previously, rail journeys had to be made via Oberkassel Belsenplatz; as there was and still is a depot at Handweiser, this new connection presumably also gave operational advantages. The route was named D when opened, becoming B the following year, route 20 in 1932 and finally route 30 in 1935. The change to numbers rather than letters was important because it meant local (rather than interurban) fares applied. Except for a short period in 1926-28 when it was extended to Neuss railway station, the service always operated as a shuttle between Handweiser and Meererbusch. It was closed a year after this picture was taken, in May 1954, and replaced by buses - the replacement bus route still carrying the same number (as 830 in the Verkehrsverbund numbering scheme) but once again running into Neuss.
Oh, I was a bit vague about this: even after numbering into the "local series", this route was always considered part of the interurban network along with the Krefeld, Moers and Duisburg lines.
