W holenderskich miastach istnieją duże obostrzenia w ruchu samochodów - ograniczona liczba zawsze płatnych i drogich miejsc do parkowania, liczne zakazy ruchu nieobejmujące komunikacji miejskiej, szlabany, słupki itp. Bardzo rozwinięta jest tam jednocześnie koncepcja P&R. W Maastricht po zaparkowaniu samochodu na bezpłatnym parkingu w pobliżu autostrady na obrzeżach miasta można skorzystać z wahadłowego autobusu dowożącego do samego centrum miasta. Bilet za przejazd kosztuje 1€ w obie strony dla wszystkich pasażerów samochodu - czyli tyle co nic.

W 1908 roku po uruchomieniu linii do Montenaken plac stał się ważnym węzłem przesiadkowym. Budynek w tle z napisem "HALTE DU TRAM" mieścił wówczas m. in. kawiarnię, a właściwym dworcem tramwajowym był ten z różową elewacją, widoczny na zdjęciu za motocyklem i Volvo.
