Gräf & Stift SL172HO M12 #31

10 september 2014 - Sarajevo, Trolejbuska anex/Depot: This 1986 bus was once #31 in the Solingen trolleybus fleet and came to Sarajevo in 2004. It now looks as though it requires a lick of fresh paint to make it fit for further service.

Gräf & Stift SL172HO M12 #4419

10 september 2014 - Sarajevo, Trolejbuska anex/Depot: This 1986 Graf und Stift six-wheeler was once #26 in the fleet of Solingen, Germany. It came to Sarajevo in 2004 and is now in an advanced state of being dismantled. The trolleybus depot looks more like a scrapyard than an operating base and many broken buses are strewn about the yard.

Škoda 21Tr #4302

10 september 2014 - Sarajevo, Trolejbuska anex/Depot: The other Skoda 21Tr bought new by GRAS was #4302, also seen here at the depot in 2014 and looking extremely unlikely to ever run again.

Škoda 21Tr #4301

10 september 2014 - Sarajevo, Trolejbuska anex/Depot: Today I will show what has happened to many of the trolleybuses once operated in the city, often obtained as gifts from various other trolleybus operators. Firstly, one of two Skoda 21Tr buses actually bought new by Sarajevo in 1996 - these haven`t lasted very long in trolleybus terms and are already in the scrap line. This one is #4301.

Miscellaneous vehicles #Rzezba

8 september 2014 - Remiza/Tramway Depot Sarajevo. Our good friend Straphan photographed this `sculpture` at the far end of the line some years ago. When I saw it years later, it had been dragged back to the depot and dumped in the yard. Perhaps he didn`t realise, but this is the chassis of one of the Washington PCC cars, identical to #71 that they have preserved. The body has vanished, however, and was probably scrapped.

Lohner E #710

8 september 2014 - Remiza/Tramway Depot Sarajevo. Another second-hand purchase (or more likely a gift?) to Sarajevo after the damaging civil was came from Wien, who have spent the last few years replacing all their huge fleet of Lohner GT6 cars with new ULF trams. Here are two of the large batch that came here, perhaps on the principle that `if they`re free, we`ll take all of them`. However, it was soon discovered that the tyres were too narrow or worn to be used safely, so only a very small number ran in service in Sarajevo and the rest were just dumped here at the depot.

Tatra KT8D5 #302

8 september 2014 - Remiza/Tramway Depot, Sarajevo. Around the end of the 1990s, Sarajevo was in the market for replacement trams and several countries offered their spare odds and ends (some more suitable than others). This Tatra KT8D from Kosice in Slovakia was one of them - a bit bigger than the Sarajevo company was used to, but no doubt quite useful for a time and they were already used to Tatra trams. By the time of my visit in 2014, however, it looked as though it was rarely used in traffic.

PCC #71

8 september 2014 - Sarajevo Railway Station. The ex-Washington PCC car poses in front of striking new architecture near the main railway station. Sarajevo suffered a damaging civil war a few years ago and things are only now getting back to normal - the cities` tramway has been re-equipped with various old trams from Netherlands, Austria and some other countries. The PCC would have been powered by conduit between the rails in Washington - unlike London, where the current collector automatically slid out from underneath when required, the Washington system relied on men who waited in large pits betweek the rails to add or remove the collector when the tram stopped above. Not a very pleasant job!

PCC #71

8 september 2014 - Remiza/Tramway Depot Sarajevo. The tramway line in Sarajevo dates from 1895, but has suffered many trials since it opened. Built to the Bosnian track gauge of 760mm, it became very run down by the 1950s and its tramcars were in great need of replacement. To re-equip the system, a decision was taken to completely re-gauge the track to standard gauge and a batch of second-hand PCC cars was obtained from America, of which #71 of the Washington system is the last survivor. This tram is operated occasionally for enthusiasts.

PCC #15

8 september 2014 - Univerzitet/University of Sarajevo. Another view of the `pretend` old tram used by the Sarajevo Tramways for visiting tourists and enthusiasts. The one main line of track here supports no less than eight different tram routes, all using a part of the line and overlapping each other.

19 july 2014 - Sarajevo, Srdana Aleksića. Tramwaj dopiero co wyjeżdża z zajezdni, żeby włączyć się na linię. Ah! Tak dawno mnie tu nie było, że aż hasła zapomniałam :). Mała niespodziewajka i come back, czyli jedziemy z fotami z Sarajeva. Postanowiłam zrobić dobry uczynek przy okazji urlopu, toteż zapowiadam serię fotek tramwajów i trajtków ze stolicy Bosni i Hercegoviny - Sarajeva (oczywiście nie wszystko na raz!), miłego oglądania ;).
