Arrival Bus B12 #EV22 BUS

23 august 2022 - 23rd August 2022. Arrival UK production facility, Banbury. The unique certified Arrival EV Bus is seen here positioned for photographs at the press launch of this project. This vehicle will remain unique: the project was suspended shortly after.

Arrival Bus B12 #EV22 BUS

23 august 2023 - 23rd August 2022. Southam Road, Banbury. The unique certified Arrival EV Bus arrives back at the Arrival UK production facility in Banbury, having completed staff transport duties.

Arrival Bus B12 #EV22 BUS

23 august 2022 - 23rd August 2022. Southam Road, Banbury. Arrival are a UK-based EV start-up. Although their primary focus is on light commercial vehicles, they are also the manufacturer of the uniquely-styled `EV Bus` model. Only this one vehicle was certified for road use before the project was suspended. I was invited to the press launch where I was able to get this photo of the vehicle operating a shuttle service for Arrival staff as part of their testing process. The vehicle is fitted with large LED displays above the windows on all four sides, as well as some very futuristic styling.

Alexander Dennis Enviro 200 MMC 10.8m #2434

4 may 2022 - Queens Wharf, A&P Docks, Falmouth. Local operator OTS hold the contract to move passengers from cruise ships to the town centre, but sometimes even more buses are required and some work is subcontracted to Go Cornwall Bus. As seen here, Go Cornwall Bus provided two buses for this particular ship.

4 may 2022 - A&P Dockyard, Falmouth Operating cruise ship shuttle services always gives a fascinating insight in to the historical and industrial dockyard.

Mercedes-Benz 516 CDI / Mellor Strata LF #LN20 PVO

1 july 2024 - Durgan Cross, nr. Mawnan Smith. Seen here while posing for publicity photos ahead of a new bus network launch for Cornwall. At this point the vehicle was new, and had not been used in service; it was delivered only one day previously.

Autosan A1012T #K44 OTS

7 march 2022 - Geevor Tin Mine, Pendeen One of only 57 Autosan A1012T in the UK and with numbers now rapidly reducing, I never miss an opportunity to take this one to spectacular places.

Autosan A1012T #K44 OTS

7 march 2022 - Geevor Tin Mine, Pendeen. Seen here while operating a private hire for school children to this prefectly preserved Cornish Tin Mine; a little bit of off-roading!

Volvo B7R / Plaxton Profile #K33 OTS

16 april 2018 - St Mawgan, nr. Newquay. Seen here collecting passengers whilst on a Private Hire for a local gardening club, through the church gates in this picturesque village.

Dennis Dart SLF / Plaxton Pointer 2 #44

23 april 2018 - A&P Docks, Falmouth A rare opportunity to drive through the industrial depths of Falmouth Docks arose today whilst undertaking Cruise Ship shuttle work from Queens Wharf, as opposed to the usual County Wharf.

Optare MetroCity #YJ15 AXF

2 june 2017 - Sudbrooke Lane, Nettleham. Seen here heading back to Nettleham village to commence the 1100 to Lincoln is this PC Coaches Optare MetroCity (YJ15AXF). This vehicle was used on the temporary Lincoln Castle P&R service along with Solo SR`s and Wright Streetlites: some, if not all, of which have now been absorbed in to the PC Coaches service fleet, usurping older vehicles and allowing expansion in to Louth. Having had a ride on this yesterday, I was most impressed by the ride and build quality: it shames the Nottingham Community Transport BYD eBus I sampled the day before!

2 june 2017 - Sudbrooke Lane, Nettleham. Seen here arriving at it`s terminus and turning point prior to commencement of the 1100 to Lincoln is this PC Coaches Optare MetroCity (YJ15AXF). Otokar Navigo T #GH16 GJK

13 may 2017 - Beacon Road, Porthleven. Seen taking a break while on a Private Hire is this unusual, but very useful Otokar. Like the Autosan A1012T`s imported to the UK, British operators seem nervous of foreign built products not already established in the UK, but actually the product is very good. The front axle is from a Mercedes Vario, the rear axle is an MAN part, Cummins engine and Allison automatic gearbox. No parts which should concern a British operator! The narrow body and short length also makes it very useful for touring the narrow and rural Cornish roads.

ADL Dart SLF / ADL Pointer #42942

11 may 2017 - Lender Lane, Mullion. One of 6 sister vehicles bought by First Devon & Cornwall for the 41 route between Falmouth and Camborne, yet now only 2 remain, including this one of course. The other 4 have been transferred to Manchester, where I imagine scenes like this can`t be found!

Volvo B7TL / Alexander ALX400 #30877

9 may 2017 - Edgcumbe Avenue, Newquay. Although built before 2001, First Manchester had modified this batch of vehicles to be DDA compliant and therefore when First South West inherited them, they were fit to use after the 2017 DDA deadline for double-deck vehicles, despite their advancing age.

Otokar Navigo T #GH16 GJK

1 may 2017 - Maritime Car Park, Falmouth. Seen here waiting for a Private Hire group is this rare (in the UK) Otokar Navigo T. It stands alongside a colourful mural - the second such decorated wall in the town.

Autosan A1012T #BX06 OAE

17 april 2017 - The Malakoff, St Ives. One of the 57 `English Liders`, this example is seen here taking part in a transport heritage event in West Cornwall. Many regard this location as the most scenic bus station in the UK.

Optare Solo M850SL #53803

22 march 2017 - Swanpool Road, Falmouth.

Mercedes-Benz 814 D / Plaxton Beaver 2 #20

22 february 2017 - Tregidden Hill, nr. Newtown. The Plaxton Beaver has now been outlawed from use on local bus services in the UK, although many have been found new uses. For example, this vehicle now works in the early spring for a Daffodil Farm carrying flower pickers to the fields.

Otokar Navigo T #GH16 GJK

1 may 2017 - Cliff Road, Falmouth. Seen preparing for a late night private hire is this rare coach - a newcomer to the UK market but ideal for accessing difficult locations, and many places in Cornwall are difficult to access! In the background you can see Pendennis Castle illuminated on it`s headland.

Volvo B10M / Plaxton Paragon #K55 OTS

2 may 2017 - North Park Road, Exeter. Seen here while waiting for passengers is this well-cared for coach, which I was driving for the day. The Northcott Theatre building can be seen in the background.

Mercedes-Benz O530G #11038

11 april 2017 - Unnamed Service Road, Eden Project, St Austell. Articulated buses are rare here in the UK, but this tourist attractions can be so busy that the buses used here have to be capable of carrying large numbers of people over short distances. Therefore, articulated buses are ideal. The previous operator of this contract, Truronian, also used Mercedes Citaro types. When First South West first took on this Park & Ride service they attempted to use Volvo B7LA vehicles from elsewhere, but they were not powerful enough to climb hills. Therefore, this is one of a number of Citaro types transferred from elsewhere in the First Group.

Autosan A1012T #BX06 OAE

17 april 2017 - Unclassified Road, Morvah. There were only 57 Autosan A1012T built for the United Kingdom market, with the driver on the right-hand side of the vehicle. I entered and drove this example on a heritage transport event along some beautiful rural routes. It was a very nice bus to drive - powerful and smooth.

Alexander Dennis Enviro 400 II #E182

7 march 2015 - Katharine St, Croydon. A common sight on the streets of London, but I thought this photo worthwhile due to the way the light illuminates the bus, together with the unique architectural mix that characterises London.

VDL DB250 / Wright Pulsar Gemini #DW44

7 march 2015 - Park Lane, Croydon. Now among the older vehicles on Londons roads is this unusual Wright bodied VDL. Arriva were big importers and operators of VDL products, but other operators were not so enthusiastic. Note St Georges House in the background - once the headquarters of Nestlé in the UK, but now being converted in to apartments.

Alexander Dennis Enviro 400 Hybrid #2487

7 march 2015 - Wellesley Road, Croydon. Some of the first examples of the new Enviro400 design from Alexander Dennis have been delivered to this operator. One is seen here, passing a tram - at this moment in time 2 rare sights in Britains roads. The bus, I suspect, will become much more common.

Volvo B6LE / Alexander ALX200 #JFZ 8626

19 february 2015 - Lumley Road, Skegness. ALX200 bodies on the Volvo B6 chassis are rare - many survivors now have been scrapped in any case. So, it was good to find one still in service providing a shuttle service for holiday makers in this popular coastal holiday town - although the weather was typically British on this day!

Scania L94UB / Wright Solar #NC06 PCC

20 february 2015 - Church Street, Nettleham. Roadworks in Lincoln City Centre were delaying all buses serving this nearby village, but this independent operator retained their loyal local passengers in the face of stiff competition from Stagecoach.

Mercedes-Benz 516 BlueTEC #GX64 FNF

24 january 2015 - Towan Road, Porthtowan. Trying to keep new buses clean at this time of year is impossible, especially with roads like the one seen here!

Mercedes-Benz 811 D / Plaxton Beaver #L357 VCV

26 december 2014 - The Moor, Falmouth. The day after Christmas Day is known as `Boxing Day` in the UK. It is a holiday where public transport traditionally does not operate, although that is slowly changing as more businesses open on this day. However, in smaller towns like Falmouth, no buses or trains run on Boxing Day so I operated a free bus service for local people to use with my own bus - seen here being driven by a friend.

Dennis Dart SLF / Caetano Nimbus #HV02 PCU

21 november 2014 - A433 nr. Didmarton. I had the honour of driving this from Oxford to the new owner, my employer, in Cornwall. The journey was long, and the weather was dismal. The season and weather is nicely captured in this photo I think.

Volvo Olympian / Alexander Royale #34193

12 november 2014 - Liskey Hill, Perranporth. First Devon & Cornwall, formerly Western National, were for many years the largest operator in Cornwall having inherited the regulated network when privatised in the 1980s. However, over the last 15 years their dominance had been severely beaten by numerous independent operators, but particularly by Western Greyhound in swathes of mid Cornwall. However, as standards at Western Greyhound drop significantly, First have made a comeback by launching a number of competitive services. An example of which is this service, launched just a week before this picture was taken and good loads are already being carried - as can be seen here.

Volvo Olympian / Northern Counties Palatine II #34177

1 november 2014 - New Road, Penzance. This Autumn has been the warmest on record here in the UK, so it is nice to be able to enjoy the sunshine at this time of year, as demonstrated here!

Mercedes-Benz 516 BlueTEC #GX64 FNF

29 october 2014 - Lamanva, nr. Falmouth. Brand new buses are quite rare in Cornwall, which is a relatively underprivileged part of the UK. So, despite its size, this bus is a `big deal` for a small local bus company like this.

Mercedes-Benz 811 D / Plaxton Beaver #HHZ 5929

8 august 2014 - School Road, Summercourt, Newquay. My very own bus, seen here during the drive home the day I took ownership. I took the opportunity to take a photograph with a much older and well cared for preserved bus with local connections.

Mercedes-Benz 814 D #291 TRL

21 september 2014 - Looe Bridge, Looe. A type usually overlooked by British bus enthusiasts is the humble van-convertions based on Mercedes Vario chassis. This is one of many built by Scottish operator, Essbee of Coatbridge, now earning its keep at the other end of the UK.

Mercedes-Benz 814 D / Plaxton Beaver 2 #573 LCV

21 september 2014 - Station Road, Looe. Seen here branded for, and operating the special Looe Music Festival Shuttle Bus service is this recent addition to the OTS fleet, followed by Western Greyhound sister 577 (WK04HSD), which was new to local independent Hamblys of Pelynt. This type of vehicle still forms the mainstay of services in rural parts of Cornwall, going to demonstrate what excellent vehicles they are in such isolated parts where inaccessible areas and marginal routes benefit from their manoeuvrability, reliability and low operating costs. Such a shame their working lives on scheduled service work are almost over with the introduction of disability discrimination laws in the new year.

Mercedes-Benz 814 D / Plaxton Beaver 2 #813 HAF

21 september 2014 - Looe Bridge, Looe. Every September the small harbour town of Looe hosts a popular music festival, and this year the organisers asked my employers to provide a service connecting local camp sites with the town centre. The 3 buses used to operate the very popular service all received dedicated branding and one is seen here on the iconic town bridge which links the Eastern and Western sides of the town, which is divided by the harbour in the channel.
