22 september 2021 - KTEL Naxos #12 passes by the sand dunes of Plaka beach. With a length of 4 km and fine sand this is perhaps the best beach on the island. The route from Chora to Plaka is the most frequent, served every 30 minutes during the summer. Although routes are formally numbered, buses generally don`t display route number or destination, except for the few with electronic displays.

23 october 2019 - Recently restored 2412 became the center point in a propaganda event organized by the Ministry of Regional Development and Public Works, which was intended to convince the public how much the Ministry`s work has changed Bulgaria with the help of EU funds. While officials told vivid and heartfelt stories of success, 3D mapping projections showcased photographs of projects financed by the EU on the body of the Ikarus. The event culminated in an attractive 6-minute video. The bus itself was wrapped in white vinyl to make the projections more visible. Hopefully the wrap won`t damage the brand new paint.

20 october 2015 - Malashevtsi was the last depot where Ikarus buses operated. Until the 21st of June 2015, the last day in service and ultimate end of the Ikarus era in Sofia bus transport. After rusting in the depot for several months, the legendary buses are now being towed to a scrapyard near Sofia. Two units are going to be preserved - 2412 and 2427. They were transported to Druzhba depot for storage until their eventual restoration. On the picture: 2401, 2492 and 2496 await their ultimate fate. Very soon the tow truck will send them on their last journey to the scrapyard.

20 october 2015 - Malashevtsi depot. 2247, 2466 and 2308 waiting to be towed to a scrapyard near Sofia. Following the delivery of the 110 new MAN Lion`s City CNG over 100 Mercedes, Chavdar and Ikarus buses were decommissioned. While many Mercedes buses remained in operation, the delivery meant a death sentence for all Ikarus and Chavdar buses in the city.

Ikarus 280.04 #2475

20 october 2015 - After rusting for some months in the depots, all decommissioned buses were sold for scrap to Makmetal Holding Jsc. Over 100 Mercedes, Chavdar and Ikarus buses are now towed to a scrapyard of the company on the territory of the former Kremikovtzi metal works near Sofia. 2475 and 2433 living their last moments in Malashevtsi depot.

21 june 2015 - 21.06.2015 - ultimate end of the Ikarus era in Sofia bus transport. Ikarus 280 was the only model that operated in the city for such a long time and in such huge quntities. Between 1974 and 1988 more than 1000 buses from the model were imported to the Bulgarian capital. It is the bus thanks to which Sofia grew and developed through the years, the bus which transported millions of citizens to their homes, schools and working places. The Ikarus golden era was in the 80`s and the beginning of the 90`s when almost all bus lines in Sofia were hauled by the Ikarus 280. The legendary bus was decommissioned tacitly, without anyone even notice. There was no solemnity, no parades or fireworks, not even a single sign to show that this is the last day in service of a bus, which has loyally served the city for 41 years.

Ikarus 280.04 #2420

21 june 2015 - Last sunset for Sofia`s Ikarus 280. 4 hours later the last Ikarus bus will return to depot for the final time. 2420 on line 79 on Chavdar bridge.

29 april 2015 - Sofia, Levski depot. After the delivery of the 50 new Skoda 27Tr, a lot of Ikarus 280 trolleybuses were decommissioned. Some of them were dismantled and cutted for scrap right after their last day in service. But others, 43 units to be precise, are stored in the former Levski depot where they are rusting for a year now. Until 2005 Levski was a functioning depot, now it is used as a repair base, where trolleybuses are sent for overhauls (the quality of which is tragical). Also, decommissioned trolleybuses are sent there for dismantling and cutting. 35 Ikarus trolleybuses, 16 of which are modernised, are still in service on lines 1, 6, 7 and 9.

12 june 2015 - Vratsa, 116 on line 4 on Mito Orozov blvd. As of June 2015 out of four Ikarus trolleybuses in the town two are in regular service - 116 and 117. 118 and 119 are awaiting spare parts in the depot. In contrast to Sofia`s Ikarus trolleybuses, which have undergone several overhauls, Ikarus trolleybuses in Vratsa are in a completely factory state.

30 may 2015 - All Souls` Day is a day of prayer for the dead. It is typical for the Eastern Orthodox Church and occurs several times during the year. In Bulgaria there are usually 4 All Souls` Days and they all fall on Saturday. According to the tradition, on this day people go to the graves of their deceased relatives, pour them with wine, put flowers and light candles. Then they give away boiled wheat to other people for the peace of their relative`s soul. Priests make prayers for the departed. In order to ensure normal transportation to and from the cemeteries in Sofia on All Souls` Day, the public transport company launches 6 additional bus and 2 additional tram lines. The additional lines are marked with -A to differ them from the regular lines with the same number and they serve only a part of the regular line`s route which goes near a cemetery. In this case 79 and 79A serve the Central Sofia Cemetery. On the picture: 2427 on line 79 meets 2216 on line 79A on Iliyantsi blvd. Line 79A goes only to Iliyantsi blvd. while regular 79 continues to Voenna rampa industrial zone. Four days later 2216 was decommissioned and currently awaits to be dismantled and cut.

Until 2005 Levski was a functioning depot, now it is used as a repair base, where trolleybuses are sent for overhauls (the quality of which is tragical). Also, decommissioned trolleybuses are sent there for dismantling and cutting. The trolleybus transport company in Pernik was interested in buying some of the 43 withdrawn Ikarus trolleybuses, since their ZiU and DAC-Chavdar are in a desparate state of disrepair. Some weeks ago, however, trolleybuses in Pernik ceased to operate after CEZ electro cutted off the electricity in the network due to unpaid debts. Since the trolleybus transport company in Pernik is virtually in a state of bankruptcy, it seems that no one will buy the decommissioned units and 43 Ikarus trolleybuses in good condition will be cut for scrap. 35 Ikarus trolleybuses, 16 of which are modernised, are still in service on lines 1, 6, 7 and 9.

24 april 2015 - 2412 on line 119 at Kremikovtzi metalworks terminus. Line 119 makes 6 additional trips to Kremikovtzi on workdays and 2 trips on weekends. Regular trips of the line are served to Botunets quarter. Kremikovtzi was Bulgaria`s largest metalworking company. The construction of its facilities began on 5 November 1960 and the first production capacities were put into operation in 1963 to produce cast iron and coke, with production extending to cover other areas in the 1960s and 1970s. After a controversial privatisation in 1999 and years of deliberate draining by the new private owners, Kremikovtzi finally declared bankruptcy in 2009. 2412 is one of the last Ikarus buses still in service in Sofia. It is said that all remaining Ikarus buses will be decommissioned this summer.
