Leyland PD 3/1 / Yeates #50

5 august 2010 - Bourne, Lincolnshire (UK) – depot/zajezdnia Delaine. One of two ‘heritage’ Leyland Titans owned by The Delaine, this one has its own little shed. This is one of only two double-deckers bodied by Yeates (the other was also a Delaine bus). Again, this is still a working bus if required in an emergency and had to go out on at least one school journey last winter! Although this bus is now fifty years old, it still starts on the button.

Leyland AN68/2R / Northern Counties #72

5 august 2010 - Bourne, Lincolnshire (UK) – depot/zajezdnia Delaine. Another view of #72 outside the main Delaine depot building. The owning family has operated buses here for 120 years and remains independent of the big UK bus groups. Everyone here is very friendly and were happy to move this bus out of the back of the depot (moving several other buses in the process) so I could take pictures.

Leyland AN68/2R / Northern Counties #72

5 august 2010 - Bourne, Lincolnshire (UK) – depot/zajezdnia Delaine. One of the three ‘heritage’ buses that have been kept by The Delaine. This long-wheelbase Atlantean was, when built, the highest capacity bus in the UK with 82 seats. Now it’s semi-retired, although still licensed for normal use if needed. Note the unusual metal fleet name on the side, which is a Delaine tradition – always ‘The Delaine’ and not just ‘Delaine’.

Volvo B9TL / East Lancs Optare #145

5 august 2010 - Bourne, Lincolnshire (UK) – depot/zajezdnia Delaine. The Delaine has standardised on Volvo/East Lancs double-deckers in recent years and three variants are shown here, together with one of their four Wright-bodied Volvo single-deckers. Normally, one new double-decker is bought every year and everything is kept absolutely immaculate. The Optare is their 2009 purchase. The B7RLE is signed for the village of Rippingale, where I was staying on holiday – one journey a week!

Volvo Olympian/East Lancs #128

5 august 2010 - Bourne, Lincolnshire (UK) – depot/zajezdnia Delaine. Some of the small fleet of Volvos operated by The Delaine bus company around Bourne, a small country town in Lincolnshire. Their main route is a frequent service to and from Peterborough, but various other local routes and school journeys are also operated. Despite this being a rural area with few bus passengers (which explain why the company hasn’t been swallowed up by a much bigger operator) large double-deckers have always featured strongly here.
