7 june 2013 - Wien (AT) - Schwarzenberg Strasse. NO PHOTOSHOP! This is a BUS with a PANTOGRAPH! This crazy machine (with several others) operates in Wien city centre, along very narrow streets which are too small for conventional buses or trams. It is, of course, a battery electric bus, but has a short section of overhead wire at each end of the line, so the batteries can be recharged.

7 june 2013 - Wien (AT) – Schwarzenberg Strasse. This photo of the rear of the bus clearly shows the charging arrangements – when the batteries are fully charged, the pantograph lowers automatically. These little buses have around 25 seats and seem to work OK, although a driver I spoke to complained that the driving cab is too small for comfort.
