28 march 2009 - Thuin (BE) – Cimetiere/Cemetery. SNCV ‘Standard’ electric car 10308 running on the ASVi museum line. Almost everything here is typical of the Vicinal network as it was until the 1970s, although newer trams were used on some parts of the system.

28 march 2009 - Thuin (BE) – Cimetiere. Another quick visit to the beautiful ASVi museum line near Charleroi. The aim of the ASVi group is to authentically recreate the atmosphere of the former SNCV metre-gauge lines which ran all over Belgium until quite recently. This they have succeeded in doing by operating diesel and electric trams along a former Vicinal line which closed in the 1980s. Here, an SNCV ‘Standard’ tram passes the local cemetery on typical roadside track.

28 march 2009 - Thuin (BE) – Ville Bas. The ASVi line joins the road near the depot and runs down the main street to a terminus in the village square. Parked cars are a problem here! This section of line is electrified, but now used only for special events.

28 march 2009 - Thuin (BE) – Cimetiere. Standard tram #10308 stands at the current limit of live electrification. Although more is planned, it must be very difficult for an amateur group to run electric trams on public roads, with all the problems of safety, insurance, cable theft etc.

10 june 2009 - Thuin (BE) – Cimitiere. A view on the ASVi running line. There seems to be no great difficulty here in volunteers operating a museum tramway along public streets – in the UK, it would be almost impossible to get official permission for this.

10 june 2009 - Thuin (BE) – Avenue de la Couture. Nearly a Lipton Moment here! British Health and Safety people would have heart failure and say this wasn’t safe……but the car got through OK in front of the tram, of course. Scary, though.
