5 june 2008 - City of Westminster, Kingsway. On the right one of the standard British low-floor double-deckers. On the left there is something more interesting. One of the much hated Citaros peeks out from the Kingsway Underpass. London's New Mayor declared he will get rid of the pesky kraut intruders, replacing them with the cornerstone of British technical innovation - double-deckers. The problem is that Red Arrow Route 521 that this artic is running on, is a vital connection between Waterloo, the City and London Bridge, without which the already overcrowded Northern Line would just collapse. The key characteristic of this route is that it uses the Kingsway Underpass, thus avoiding around 3 sets of traffic lights and the busy Aldwych junction. A double-decker won't fit in the tunnel anymore, despite the fact, that it was formerly a tram tunnel for double-decker trams before 1952. It seems a lack of forethought blights not just Polish local politicians.
