26 october 2018 - Buffalo, Main St. Buffalo was the second U.S. city (after San Diego) to build a completely new tram/LRT system during the era of 1970-1980s rail transit renaissance. The line, opened in 1984-86, included a 1.3 mi/2 km street section in the city center and a 5.2 mi / 8.5 km tunnel. Ambitious plans considered an extensive radial regional system, reaching the famous Niagara (located 20 mi/30 km north of Buffalo) and other suburbs; however, due to economic recession and a continuous population decline these projects were never implemented, and the first section remains to be the only one.
