Starszy był tylko dyliżans konny. Zorganizowana sieć takich dyliżansów rozpoczęła komunikację zbiorową w mieście w 1829 roku. W dniu wybuchu I Wojny Światowej na ulice miasta wyjeżdżało dyliżansów ponad 4 tysiące, a jeździły już wtedy autobusy. W latach I WŚ transport konny wrócił jeszcze na chwilę do łask z powodu wysłania na front autobusów.
