7 october 2008 - Oradea, Romania – Piata 1 Decembrie. OTL surprised the tramway world when it bought a batch of these Siemens ULF cars, identical to those in Wien. Apart from an experimental low-floor car built in Bucuresti, these are the first new-generation trams in Romania and have generated much interest from other Romanian and Hungarian operators. However, I doubt that most Romanian tramways have the money to buy any, and they require well-maintained tracks on which to run – Oradea is quite good in this respect, so let’s hope they will be able to keep them in service.

In fact, I think this was actually photographed on a little private tour, carrying a group of Debrecen tramway officials - a few minutes later, the same tram was with them in the depot. They seemed very keen to buy some. Perhaps they have elections, too? OTL Oradea seem to have much closer ties with the city council than other tramway operators in Romania - more of a city department than a separate organisation - so perhaps they found it easier to get money for new trams.
