Walker/Schuckert bogie tram #?

1901 - Zabrze – Kronprinzenstrasse. A very early view in the centre of Zabrze shows two Walker type cars of the OKEW, one drawing a ‘baladeuse’ or open trailer - I don’t think these lasted very long in the Silesian climate! The windscreen on the nearest tram looks home-made. Electric trams began operating in Zabrze in 1898, partly replacing steam trams. Publisher: Posef Reisch.

Busch 4-wheeled tram #12

- Katowice – 3 Maja. The earliest photo I’ve seen of a tram in Katowice, taken in 1899. Narrow gauge car 12 runs along the edge of the road, looking towards today’s Plac Wolnosci. There is only one single track for the trams and not one motor vehicle can be seen – all is horse traffic. This photo was taken just a few weeks after the first trams arrived from Chorzow Batory direction.

Walker/Schuckert bogie tram #29

1904 - Bismarckhutte (now Chorzow Batory) - Bismarckstrasse. Two Walker type trams of the 785mm gauge Oberschlesische Kleinbahnen AG (OKEW) meet in the centre of Chorzow Batory in 1904. These trams were similar to American interurban cars and had seats for 2nd and 3rd class passengers – I don’t know where 1st class sat! Nearest the camera is car 29 connecting to Swietochlowice and in the background, is the direct Zawodzie to Chorzow Rynek tram. You can already see today’s TS route network starting to emerge.
