15 september 2018 - Kiev, Ukraine - Shevchenko tramway depot: AB-2 is an ex-KTB-57 tram now used as a towing car to move broken down or accident damaged trams from anywhere on the network. The extra bank of resistances on the roof are there to spread the electrical load generated when the car is pulling a heavy load.

15 september 2018 - Kiev, Ukraine - Podilske tramway depot: Back on the west side system, here is one of two "AB" numbered trams in the Kiev works car fleet. I assume that the designation tells you what these trams are designed for - my guess is that they are towing cars to pull broken down trams around the network? That would explain the extra bank of resistances on the roof, where they are cooled by the outside air.

15 september 2018 - Kiev, Ukraine - Podilske tram depot: A large system, now fallen on hard times and mostly neglected, the Kiev tramways are now divided into two separate zones east and west of the Dnieper river. What investment there is has taken place on the west bank, where new trams are operating on rebuilt tracks. As would be expected, there were once many works trams around the system supporting operations and many remain, although they look as though they are no longer used to any extent. Here are some photos of ones which remain, all in the yard of a depot just to the north of the city centre. This first one is a general carrier truck and is still well used.

15 september 2018 - Kiev, Ukraine - Podilske depot: This is where my British computer keyboard lets me down! The fleet number is obviously different in Cyrillic and I`m not sure of the function of this tram - maybe some kind of hopper to carry bulk material for track works?
